Story of Seeing Grinderswitch - Story of Seeing Grinderswitch :::

It was May 3, 1980, I was a Senior in high school and was working in a small sporting store in Baldwin Long Island. The Phone rings and its my buddy George. he says Harpo "Grinderswitch is being Interviewed on the radio." So I told my boss I had to go home for a few minutes I flew home and caught the last few minutes of the interview on WLIR.Dru made this statement "Tonight we are going play a radio concert at MY Fathers Place and if the right people show up we should blow the roof off." My Fathers Place was a night club on long Island that great musicians started there careers.

So any way the story finishes like this. My friends and I ,which was in the numbers of about 25 show up at 12 PM on a Wednesday night, Yes a school night I made a deal with my Mom I wouldn't miss school the next day . The show was like a special extra and short notice ,so not to many people knew about it .There was a whole other act that night. They cleared the place and the boys came in. The rest is History. All 25 of us sang and cheered so that the place sounded full. If you purchase the CD you will here us all singing in the back ground. When Dru made the statment "I SEE FOLKS FROM BALDWIN" - The house came down!

What a night to remember. The Winters Brothers were apparently touring with Grinderswitch at the time and they played the second show. This is where we saw Dru come out as a guest and play Stephen Millers Hammond B3 on the song'' SANG HER LOVE SONGS '' . Yes, I made it to school a little late the next day. Afterward my fiends and I gathered up and listened to the show that George's 14 year old brother Paul taped for us that night. In closing I had no voice the next day!
